Creating Connections: How Barcroft’s Resource Management Program Is Building a Stronger Community
At Barcroft Apartments in Arlington, Va., we believe that vibrant communities are built through connection, support, and opportunity. Since stepping into the role of Resource Manager in February 2025, Fredy Mejia has brought energy, compassion, and a hands-on approach to supporting residents through impactful programs and partnerships.
With a strong background in property management and a passion for helping people, Fredy has quickly become a trusted resource for Barcroft residents—providing access to services that enhance daily life and open doors to new opportunities.
“I’ve always wanted to do more than just manage buildings—I wanted to connect people to the tools and services that help them thrive,” Fredy shared. “This role allows me to do just that, every single day.”
Celebrating Milestones and Supporting Families
This spring, Barcroft hosted a Grad Gala, a two-part event designed to ensure high school students had access to free prom attire—including brand-new and gently-used dresses from Becca’s Closet and suits from Suits for Good. On April 24 and May 2, students were able to try on outfits, take photos, and celebrate a major life moment—without financial stress.

“Some parents pulled me aside just to say thank you,” Fredy noted. “It meant a lot to know their kids wouldn’t miss out on such an important milestone.”
Promoting Wellness and Preventive Health
Recognizing the value of accessible healthcare, Barcroft partnered with the Northern Virginia Lions Vision Clinic to provide free vision screenings in April, serving residents of all ages. A free hearing screening is scheduled for June, and a blood pressure clinic will follow shortly after. These offerings provide a convenient and cost-free way for residents to prioritize their health—right within their community.

“Many residents have demanding schedules and may not always be able to make it to appointments during traditional hours,” Fredy said. “Bringing services onsite makes it easier to take care of those needs.”
Empowering Seniors Through Digital Literacy
Through a partnership with the Arlington Alliance for Seniors, Barcroft hosted two sessions of a six-week digital literacy course for residents age 55 and older. Participants learned essential tech skills, built confidence, and were rewarded with free laptops and certificates of completion at a graduation ceremony—complete with cake and flowers.
“It was more than a class—it was a chance for our seniors to engage, grow, and connect with others,” Fredy explained. A total of 16 seniors completed the program across the two sessions.
Elevating Resident Voices
Barcroft’s Resident Voice Meetings and forums give residents a platform to stay informed and shape community offerings. The April 30 meeting had record attendance—31 participants in person and via Zoom—and featured speakers from the Arlington Food Assistance Center, who shared how residents can access free grocery resources, and the Department of Human Services, who trained staff on how to make direct referrals.
“We’re always listening,” Fredy said. “These meetings help us stay connected to what residents need and want.”
Encouraging Wellness, Financial Health, and Community Engagement
An integral part of the community Fredy is able to anticipate programming that enhance all aspects of Barcroft residents’ daily life:
- “Free & Fit for All” (June 12): An upcoming wellness event that will connect residents to reduced-cost recreation options in Arlington, highlight at-home workouts, and include a closing yoga session.
- Financial Literacy Workshop (May 29): Delivered through Jair Lynch, this session will help residents build confidence in budgeting, saving, and financial planning.
- Sundries Pantry: Offers free household essentials like cleaning supplies for residents, helping stretch household budgets.
- State Farm Workshop: An upcoming session on paycheck protection and financial tools.
- National Night Out (August): A family-friendly community event where local police, fire departments, and vendors will share information and services in a fun, welcoming atmosphere.
Listening, Learning, and Growing Together
Whether it’s through surveys, direct conversations, or community forums, Fredy and the team are always identifying new ways to bring meaningful programs to Barcroft. “We want every resident to know we’re here, we’re listening, and we’re ready to help connect them to the tools that make life a little easier,” he said.
This work reflects the mission of Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners: to go beyond housing and invest in the people and communities that make each property thrive.
“I’m grateful to be part of this,” Fredy said. “When we connect someone with a service that truly helps that’s a win for all of us.”
