August 2024: A Look Back at National Night Out & More
August was an exciting month across the Jair Lynch portfolio, with a variety of events that brought our communities together, supported residents, and created memorable experiences. From back-to-school giveaways to festive end-of-summer celebrations, our properties focused on fostering engagement, connection, and providing essential resources to our residents. Here’s a look back at some of our favorites from August 2024:
National Night Out at Berkdale
Berkdale Apartments invited all residents and community impact partners to join in their largest event of the year, National Night Out. This event celebrated unity, diversity, community, and safety. The Herndon Police Department came ready to celebrate these values and joined over 300 of our residents to enjoy the food, music, games, water slide, resources, and the beautiful weather. “We were honored to have the Mayor, our future Governor, and the Park Authority of Herndon visiting our property and they were amazed to see the great turnout,” recounted Berkdale property manager, Delvy Quezada.
Potomac Vista Back to School Giveaway & End of Summer ice cream social
Welcoming in back-to-school season, Potomac Vista partnered with Prince William County Public Schools to host a Back to School Giveaway. This event provided essential school supplies, including backpacks, notebooks, earbuds, and more to two dozen students. We’re looking forward to expanding the range of supplies next year to include more items for students of all grade levels.
An annual tradition at Potomac Vista, the End of Summer Ice Cream Social is always a hit. This year, residents enjoyed free ice cream, courtesy of the Blue Bunny Ice Cream truck. With over 30 happy attendees, the event was a sweet way to close out the summer, and many residents voiced their anticipation for next year’s celebration.
Bedford and Victoria Food Distribution
At Bedford and Victoria, we teamed up with Small Things Matter, a local 501(3)c nonprofit founded on the idea that small acts of kindness can make a big impact on someone’s life. This impactful organization joined the Bedford and Victoria property management team to distribute over 100 food items to residents. Residents took home fresh, high-quality food items, which included everything from bread and muffins to casseroles and pies. It was a meaningful reminder of how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in our communities. Visit www.smallthingsmatter.org to learn more or get involved.
Phoenix BBQ
Phoenix Apartments kicked off August with a lively BBQ by the pool. Residents enjoyed a buffet of burgers, hot dogs, and mac & cheese, while a DJ kept the music flowing. The Bladensburg Police Department even stopped by, accompanied by an ice cream truck offering discounted treats. Despite the heat, 45 residents came together for this fun summer event, with many taking home to-go plates to enjoy later.
National Night Out at Barcroft Apartments
Barcroft Apartments hosted an exciting National Night Out, a nationally sponsored event designed to strengthen relationships between law enforcement agencies and the community. Over 250 residents attended, engaging with the Arlington County police, fire department, and sheriff’s office. Officers answered questions, shared information on local programs, and even allowed children to explore their response vehicles. The event also featured lawn games, a moon bounce, and art activities for the kids, along with plenty of beverages and snacks. Vendors like Columbia Pike Partnership and Verizon were on hand, offering resources and giveaways, while the Resources team provided brochures on services available to residents. The event was a great success, showcasing the importance of police-community partnerships and leaving everyone excited for next year’s celebration.
Looking Ahead
As we reflect on August, we’re reminded of the importance of building vibrant, connected communities. Whether through school support, social events, or essential services, each of these events contributed to the strengthening pf bonds between residents and local support agencies. We look forward to bringing even more engaging, impactful events to our properties in the months ahead.
Stay tuned for September’s events and initiatives, as we continue to prioritize the needs of our residents and create spaces where everyone can thrive.
