Season of Sharing: A Year-End Reflection on Holiday Engagement
As the holidays approached and the year came to a close, our communities embraced the spirit of giving, gathering, and gratitude. Across all sites, November and December were filled with creative programming and thoughtful services designed to lift burdens, celebrate culture, and bring people together. From winter accessories and toy giveaways to festive outings and warm meals, our engagement efforts closed out 2025 with care and connection.
Barcroft Apartments: Holiday Markets and Lasting Connections
Barcroft celebrated the season with a joyful Photo with Santa event that brought families together for festive portraits and refreshments. Residents continued to receive tech support through the computer help desk and wrapped up their computer classes with pride and new skills. Seasonal support included food referrals, financial guidance, and in-person banking Q&A sessions with PNC Bank. A highlight was the resident-run holiday market, which featured crafts, baked goods, and handmade items sold by neighbors, reinforcing Barcroft’s strong sense of community and entrepreneurship.
Paul Laurence Dunbar Apartments: Consistent Care with a Cultural Touch
At PLDA, holiday engagement focused on consistency, dignity, and cultural celebration. Residents continued to receive daily meals, homebound food boxes, and essential wellness support including help with insurance and utilities. A traditional Ethiopian and Eritrean Coffee Ceremony brought neighbors together to mark the season with meaning. Staff also facilitated birthday recognitions and end-of-year one-on-one check-ins to ensure no resident felt left behind during the holidays.
Berkdale, Bedford and Victoria, and Villas at Langley: Warmth, Wellness, and Winter Cheer
Across these properties, residents received support in both practical and joyful forms. Each site created Amazon wish lists to collect winter accessories like hats, gloves, and scarves for children and families. Distribution events ensured these cold-weather items reached those in need.
Families were also connected to local organizations providing holiday support, food assistance, and resources tailored to low-income households. Villas at Langley hosted a holiday movie night and bingo for children, offering moments of laughter and celebration to close out the year.

Carver Terrace: Groceries, Giving, and Holiday Magic
Carver Terrace hosted a series of grocery pick-up events featuring fresh produce and pantry staples, with support from Martha’s Table and Bread for the City. Residents also received hats and gloves through community-led distributions. But the highlight of the season was a series of family-friendly celebrations including a field trip to the Holiday Boat Parade in Southwest and an outing to see the Lights at the Yards. These events brought joy, wonder, and a sense of belonging as families experienced the magic of DC’s holiday season together.
Clarkston, Fields at Cascade, and Potomac Vista: Bringing the Season to Life
Clarkston Station hosted a neighborhood Harvest Festival that combined fall fun with resource connection and community engagement. Fields at Cascade kept the spirit going with a Toys for Tots distribution, providing gifts to children and easing holiday stress for families. Potomac Vista turned their leasing office into a Winter Wonderland with cookies, decorations, and photos with Santa. Residents at these sites also attended rent payment workshops and holiday-themed gatherings designed to inform, support, and uplift.
Phoenix Apartments and Jamison: Decorating, Celebrating, and Supporting One Another
At Phoenix, residents joined in the annual Christmas Tree Contest, turning their creativity into festive displays that brightened the property. Bingo nights, holiday events for children, and resident meetings all contributed to a season of connection. Jamison continued daily meal service from DC Central Kitchen and offered holiday support through warm clothing distributions and food assistance referrals. Community spaces were activated with gatherings that blended fun, information, and a strong sense of community.
Looking Ahead
Whether it was a warm hat, a shared meal, a Santa photo, or a simple ride to see the lights, every event in November and December reflected the same goal of making the season brighter, easier, and more meaningful for our residents. As we look ahead to 2026, we carry with us the joy, lessons, and momentum of the season.
