Jair Lynch served as development manager for the Capital Area Food Bank to manage the design and construction of its new warehouse and distribution facility in Northeast Washington D.C. Completed in Q3 2012, the facility provides both food and outreach services to the region’s 700+ member agencies. The new facility more than doubled its food storage capacity and number of docks for in-bound and out-bound deliveries and pickups from its former warehouse. It also added additional services such as a market for agencies to shop for goods and a training kitchen to educate agencies on healthy food preparation. The new facility is slated to achieve LEED® Silver certification and incorporated a host of green and sustainable design solutions into the project including: a $1 MM, 122 kW solar panel array which was donated through a partnership with BP Solar and saves the Capital Area Food Bank more than 25% of its annual energy costs for the center; a 10,000 gallon rainwater harvest system which will irrigate its planned 50,000 square foot demonstration garden; natural lighting for the office through new south facing, glass atrium, motion sensor, energy efficient lighting, low flow faucets and low VOC paint, carpet in the office building and education labs.
