September of Service: A Look Back at Jair Lynch’s Annual Day of Service and Building Together with Habitat for Humanity
September was an extraordinary month for the Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners team, filled with opportunities to give back and connect with the communities we proudly serve. From framing up homes with Habitat for Humanity to preparing meals for those in need, our team united with a shared sense of purpose, reinforcing our commitment to service and community-building.
Habitat for humanity’s women build campaign: coming together for the third time
On September 18, several of our female team members participated in Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build campaign for the third time overall and the second time this year. Last our team joined forces with Habitat for Humanity, our team prepared six homes for family move-ins by laying sod and landscaping at Skyland Terrace. This time, our efforts were directed to Habitat’s project in Capitol Hill, where we worked on framing a historic row home being converted into two affordable housing units. These homes will soon offer a 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom residence on the first floor and a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom unit across the second and future third floors.
Our team took on the critical task of framing the homes, a hands-on experience that allowed us to contribute to affordable homeownership in one of the city’s most competitive real estate markets.
“This experience deepened my appreciation for our subcontractors and their hard work. It reminded me how challenging manual labor can be! More importantly, working on a project that supports affordable homeownership in a neighborhood like Capitol Hill, where costs often put homeownership out of reach for so many, was incredibly rewarding. Working alongside both internal teammates and external partners made the day even more meaningful.”
Emily alexander, development manager, sharing reflections on the day
This day of service underscored our dedication to advancing affordable housing in D.C. and reinforced our commitment to making homeownership more accessible in neighborhoods that face steep barriers to entry.
The 2nd Annual Jair Lynch Day of Service at DC Central Kitchen
Just a week later, on September 25, the entire Jair Lynch team participated in our 2nd Annual Day of Service at DC Central Kitchen (DCCK). As a nonprofit organization committed to fighting hunger and poverty through job training and meal distribution, DCCK’s mission aligns perfectly with our goal of building stronger communities. The organization takes surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and transforms it into nutritious meals that are distributed to shelters, schools, affordable housing communities, and nonprofits citywide.
Our team spent the day chopping tomatoes, cabbage, watermelon, and other fresh produce, in addition to bagging oranges and pears. These fresh ingredients and more were prepared into meals for local residents facing food insecurity. Many of these meals and produce packages were scheduled for distribution at some of Jair Lynch’s own affordable housing communities, including Entwine, our senior affordable community in Takoma, D.C. The partnerships between DCCK and our properties ensure that our residents not only have a safe place to live but also access to nutritious food.
We spent half the day at DCCK’s impressive facility, where we learned from their dedicated staff and connected with other volunteers. The day was humbling yet empowering, reminding us how interwoven our work in real estate development is with the broader mission to support and uplift our communities.
A Month of Giving Back and Service
At Jair Lynch, we believe that giving back to the community isn’t just something we do—it’s who we are. Whether we’re framing homes to help families achieve the dream of homeownership or preparing meals for our neighbors in need, we are committed to making a difference in the communities we serve.
This September, we had the privilege of contributing to both affordable housing and hunger relief in the D.C. area. We look forward to continuing these efforts and finding new ways to build connections, give back, and make a lasting impact in the city we call home.
